Career Pathway
Ready to launch your career in Machine Learning? Here's everything you need to know about pursuing a Machine Learning Master's at Stevens Institute of Technology - from admission to graduation and beyond.

Requirements
A strong background in math (linear algebra, calculus, statistics) and programming (Python, algorithms, data structures) is essential. Those with non-CS degrees should consider bridging courses on platforms like Coursera or at local colleges. Building a portfolio of ML projects—starting with beginner Kaggle competitions and progressing to advanced deep learning models—demonstrates practical skills. Internships, research assistantships, or freelance work further strengthen an application.
Crafting your Application
Stevens evaluates applicants holistically, weighing GPA (3.0+ recommended), GRE scores, letters of recommendation, and a compelling Statement of Purpose (SOP). The SOP should articulate the applicant’s passion for ML, why Stevens is the right fit, and long-term career aspirations. Strong applications also highlight relevant coursework, projects, and professional experience. Deadlines are critical: April 15 for Fall admission and November 1 for Spring.

Application
When you have your application ready, go here and apply. It is straightforward and required you to upload the documents you created.
Housing
Most Stevens graduate students live off-campus in Jersey City, Hoboken, or nearby NYC neighborhoods (like Downtown Jersey City or Journal Square), where rents range from $1,200–$2,000/month for shared apartments. Hoboken is the closest but pricier, while Jersey City offers more affordable options with easy transit access. Some students also find housing in Union City or Weehawken for lower costs. Use zillow or other websites to find your ideal home.

Funding and financial Aid
Stevens offers TA/RA positions - apply early. Merit scholarships (25-50% tuition) are awarded automatically. Federal loans (FAFSA) are additional options. This link should provide more information
Courses to consider
Focus on CS 559 (ML Fundamentals), CS 584 (Deep Learning), and CS 550 (Algorithms). Electives in NLP (CS 581) and Computer Vision (CS 582) will boost specialization. Click here for more information

Securing Internships
Securing an internship is integral but heavily dependent on luck, the only real steps are to use an existing template to create your resume, and apply to internships on linkedin, jobright and others. Prepare for interviews, how you do so is up to you.
Moving on with your career
Youre allowed to book weekly appointments to better your resume at Stevens, use those resources to the maximum. Attend Tech Fairs, and speak to Stevens Alumini particularly in the field of AI and Machine Learning

PHD pathway
If you do want to learn more, a PHD is a good option.
Start research early with faculty on research. Aim to publish at top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML) and maintain a 3.8+ GPA. Strong recommendation letters from Stevens professors are key for applications.
Pro Tip: Take CS 800 (Thesis Research) to build your publication record.
